The Oregon Vortex

Oregon Vortex

The Oregon Vortex – isn’t just the name enough to catch your interest? Alright, so it may not have amazing scenic outlooks or breathtaking waterfalls and caverns, but it is a must-see in its own way. Located in southern Oregon, the vortex is a place of mystery open to the most curious of tourists. The owners claim it is a unique spot on Earth, where a vortex subtly manipulates the gravitational field, causing strange phenomena to be observed. They claim that nowhere within the vortex do you actually stand upright. Visitors to the vortex are taken on a guided tour and shown many sights – none of which seem to make sense, even when photographed and studied. In one of the most popular areas, two people standing on a level platform appear to taller or shorter depending on which side of the platform they stand on. In another, bottles appear to roll uphill.

The history of the vortex goes far back in time, to when Native Americans

were the only inhabitants of the area. They claim their horses would not enter the area and so they called it the “Forbidden Ground” and refused to enter it. In the 1920s, a physicist and geologist named John Litser noted the strange phenomena of the area and began experimenting. He opened the House of Mystery, located within the vortex, to the public in 1930 and conducted thousands of experiments in the area until his death in 1959. Whether you come as a skeptic or the merely curious, the Oregon Vortex is certain to bewilder and entertain. Photographs are allowed and even encouraged. Other nearby attractions include the Wildlife Safari, where you drive alongside lions, giraffes, ostriches, buffalo, and other exotic animals, and Crater Lake, a pristine lake known for its untouched beauty.
